KERN
RIVER
EXPEDITION |
| The
Kern River area offers excellent learning opportunities for
students of any age. This is also an incredible backdrop
for corporate and family retreats. Let WOLF show you all the
Sierra have to offer. This is
Southern California's premier adventure playground; Whitewater
rafting, rock climbing, mountain biking, horseback riding, and
kayaking are just a few of the many activities available in
the spectacular Sierra Nevada Mountains. |
|

|
| Area
Hotels and Conference centers are perfect venues for Family
& Corporate retreats, professional development seminars,
and intense teambuilding expeditions. Our staff will work
with you to find the perfect locale and design the ideal
schedule for your event. |
| Participants
in our Educational Science Camp will assess the
health of the river by testing for ammonia, nitrates,
dissolved oxygen, temperature, turbidity, pH and
coliform.. They
will also explore the biotic life of the Kern to give
them a rounded view of the river. The Kern
River is host to beavers, three different types of
trout, turtles, and numerous birds. |
 |
The
first day will be spent setting up camp, orienting the
students to their new environment and working on
communication and teambuilding skills.
The campsite, along the Kern River, is nestled
between high mountain peaks in the southern Sierras.
This unique location allows students to observe
many different biomes such as alpine, chaparral,
wetland, riparian, and high desert. |
| Over
the following two days students will have the
opportunity to be on the high
ropes course, whitewater
raft on the Kern River,
Mountain
Bike the Sierras and
partake in
hands-on
science experiments examining the
health of the Kern River. |
|
|
| The
high ropes course will allow students to challenge themselves
physically and mentally, as they are 35 feet above the ground.
The white water rafting will include one or two trips
down the Kern River, run by trained guides.
Each student will learn water safety and paddling
techniques. Each evening, trail groups will meet to explore the
mysteries of the night. We
feel that it is important to negate the superstitions of the
night and help students to feel comfortable in the darkness.
We will bring out telescopes and a guest speaker for our
astronomy lessons. Other
activities include the discovery of nocturnal animals and
controlled solo hikes. After
evening program we bring the students together for a closing
circle where they acknowledge their accomplishments. |
