Belay cable wraps are the easiest and simplest way to terminate a belay cable to a pole or tree. Three fist grip cable clamps or two copper ferrules are required for this type of termination. The third clamp or second ferrule act as the redundant back up system to this type of termination.
The clamp or ferrule closest to the tree or pole must be at least a distance equal to the radius of the tree or pole. It is suggested the when using this method on trees that extra space be added to account for the future growth of the tree.
At least one 6" staple must be used to prevent the cable wrap from slipping. Two staples are preferred however, one may be used when several cable are wrapped in the same area of the pole or tree to prevent weakening from over stapling.
Treatment used in poles can cause damage to the cable. It is therefore required that the cable be protected by using a clear PVC tubing that separates the cable from the pole. The clear PVC tubing should also be used on tree terminations to prevent damage to the tree from cable loads.
